What is Phelan Forward?

Hi everyone, my name's Peter, and this is my first blog post! I'm a sophomore at Northeastern University, and I want to try something new. When I was younger I thought I wasn't creative enough to try my hand at the art that interested me. Leave that to the theater kids, the AV kids, the kids who knew what they liked and pursued it with abandon.

Somewhere along the line I had missed that creativity or talent can only be sensed once you actually TRY something. I hadn't even gotten that far, too scared of failing to find out if I had talent. That's really dumb! I don't like being dumb! I think it's about time to stop the stupid and start the site.

Phelan Forward will be my launch pad for any creative projects I'm working on, whether I've always wanted to try them, like writing, photography, and filmmaking, or never tried them (maybe you'll get a crochet section eventually). Don't expect fine tuned work. Expect imperfect effort thrown a thousand ways, some fun, and almost certainly, some failure.

I tend to stick to what comes naturally, and steer clear of what resists easy completion. That's a habit I want to break. Failure isn't nearly as scary once you realize it isn't an end. It's proof of life, and proof of progress. It's growing pains toward something good, or at least half-decent. Diving into the deep end, taking a swing at something new, and yes, failing, but failing forward, is the ethos behind this website, and I hope you'll come along for the ride!
